Twin figures for the Horn of Africa and the Nile basin states, counted from its layers at their stated dates.

Twin builder and simulator.

For AI and digital governance: the faculty's twin of Horn of Africa on the planet map, the globe and in 3D. Pick a generator, switch layers, run the instruments; every layer prints its provider and date.

The Horn of Africa and the Nile basin states: a flat plan of the faculty twin. 13 countries; First-level divisions, geoBoundaries gbOpen with a licence gate per boundary: live, loads in the twin; Disaster alerts, GDACS live: live, loads in the twin; Natural events, NASA EONET live: live, loads in the twin. Graticule every five degrees; countries (natural earth 1:110m) as outlines.
The Horn of Africa and the Nile basin states, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Uganda and neighbours. Flat map of the same data: the 13 countries on a graticule and the numbers below. The globe opens on devices with WebGL once its library has been checked; the live alerts, events and divisions load in the globe on request, each with its data date.

The discipline in brief.

The discipline teaches algorithmic impact assessment, human oversight design, conformity assessment, data protection and data governance, and procurement and standards reading, under ISO/IEC 42001, the EU AI Act with the high-risk dates the Digital Omnibus on AI set in 2026, the Council of Europe Framework Convention on AI and the GDPR. The faculty's stage is its case in data governance: every dataset admitted through a register row with its licence, and the geoBoundaries gate as a worked example of a rule applied per record in the browser. A graduate can run an algorithmic impact assessment, specify human oversight for an automated decision and read an AI management system against the standard.

This area covers how AI and digital systems are overseen and held accountable: risk-based AI regulation, algorithmic decisions in the public sector, data governance and sharing, digital rights and privacy, liability for autonomous agents, procurement and standards, and international cooperation. It is taught in the department of Science, Technology and Society, Faculty of Governance, Policy and International Affairs, through 1 course with it as primary discipline and 2 more that also teach it.
