Institutions, policy, foresight, diplomacy, law and the records they run on
A shared risk is governed by whoever holds the mandate, and the mandate is read from records: the treaty's depositary page, the organisation's member list, the alert a national authority issues.

Twin figures for the Horn of Africa and the Nile basin states, counted from its layers at their stated dates.
The faculty's twin of Horn of Africa on the planet map, the globe and in 3D. Pick a generator, switch layers, run the instruments; every layer prints its provider and date.
Drag to turn the globe, Ctrl with the wheel to zoom. Keyboard: arrows turn, + and - zoom, 0 resets, V steps through the views, Escape clears.
Flat map of the same data: the 13 countries on a graticule and the numbers below. The globe opens on devices with WebGL once its library has been checked; the live alerts, events and divisions load in the globe on request, each with its data date.
The map loads from this site as it nears the view (MapLibre 6.9.1, checked by hash).
On the Horn of Africa and the Nile basin the stage carries countries as Natural Earth publishes them, first-level divisions behind a licence gate per boundary, the GDACS and EONET feeds as dated signals, a horizon scan, a policy timeline and a membership matrix that ships empty because no row yet admits a member list, under ISO 31000:2018, ISO 37000:2021 and the Sendai Framework. A graduate can map who holds a mandate and write an assessment in which nothing is asserted without its record.
Faculty of Governance, Policy and International Affairs groups 18 disciplines into 5 departments. 3 of the 10 courses whose primary discipline is here are open for enrolment and the rest are in preparation; all of them are taught on the Risk Academy main site, so your record stays in one place.
Numbered as on the faculty figure at the top of the page. Each card counts the department's disciplines and the courses whose primary discipline is there.
Each discipline once, in its department. A mark is one primary course, filled when it is open.
Emerging areas, the technologies changing practice and the bodies that set the field's methods, from the faculty's expert review. Named for orientation; none of them endorses the Academy.
The newest developments cited on the faculty's discipline pages, sources checked on 16 October 2026. Each links to its discipline and its source.
News and research as they are published, per discipline, with the faculty's other tools.
The faculty's entry course, then its flagship pathways and the Academy flagship in Nexus-Based Risk Management.
Courses with their primary discipline in this faculty. Open courses link to the catalogue; the others are listed so you can plan.
The Nexus Standards subsites whose standards the faculty's disciplines teach, by the Academy's proposed mapping.
| Lab | What you do in it | Courses using it |
|---|---|---|
| Map lab | Read hazard, exposure and boundaries on real maps | 3 |
| Network lab | Build dependency graphs, find critical nodes, trace cascades | 2 |
| Trigger lab | Set forecast thresholds, pre-agreed actions and messages | 1 |
| Geo quiz | Check spatial reasoning on where hazards and systems meet | 1 |
Each programme joins disciplines from more than one faculty and is hosted by an institute on the main site; it is listed on every faculty it spans.
The institute convenes the disciplines that study climate and nature risk from the physical science to the balance sheet.
InstituteThe institute convenes the technology lens on every domain: how technologies help manage risk, what risks they create and how they are governed.
Each department lists its disciplines, courses and pathways; each discipline its scope, labs, technology and key terms.
