Conflict, fragility, political risk and the records that make them legible
Armed conflict and violence, state fragility and civil unrest, compound crises in which hazards strike fragile settings, and the actions of states and political systems are risks with their own evidence and methods.

Twin figures for the Horn of Africa and the Nile basin states, counted from its layers at their stated dates.
For Department of Peace, Conflict and Security: the faculty's twin of Horn of Africa on the planet map, the globe and in 3D. Pick a generator, switch layers, run the instruments; every layer prints its provider and date.
Drag to turn the globe, Ctrl with the wheel to zoom. Keyboard: arrows turn, + and - zoom, 0 resets, V steps through the views, Escape clears.
Flat map of the same data: the 13 countries on a graticule and the numbers below. The globe opens on devices with WebGL once its library has been checked; the live alerts, events and divisions load in the globe on request, each with its data date.
The map loads from this site as it nears the view (MapLibre 6.9.1, checked by hash).
The department's methods are conflict analysis and early warning on credited event records, fragility and country risk assessment, conflict-sensitive programming and do no harm, security risk management for organisations with a duty of care, sanctions and economic statecraft reading, and scenario planning for geopolitical shocks, under ISO 31000 and the Sendai Framework's attention to fragile settings. On the globe the department reads the Horn of Africa through the GDACS and EONET feeds as dated signals; the conflict and displacement layers stay empty because their rows are under legal review, and the page says so. A graduate can write a conflict analysis, a country risk assessment and a security risk plan in which every figure carries its source and nothing is treated as a forecast.
