Global risks that interact, and how they are assessed
Global risk assessments shape what governments and boards worry about, yet they rest on very different methods: expert surveys, indicator sets, models and foresight.

Twin figures for the Tonle Sap and the Lower Mekong at Phnom Penh, counted from its layers at their stated dates.
For Polycrisis and global risk assessment: the faculty's twin of Tonle Sap on the planet map, the globe and in 3D. Pick a generator, switch layers, run the instruments; every layer prints its provider and date.
Drag to move, right drag or Shift with a drag to turn and tilt, Ctrl with the wheel to zoom. Keyboard: arrows move, Shift with arrows turn and tilt, + and - zoom, 0 resets, V steps through the views, Escape clears.
Flat plan of the same data: the lake and rivers, the dams, the plants by capacity, the cropland and tree cover cells and the numbers below. The 3D twin opens on devices with WebGL once its data and library have been checked; discharge, vegetation, surface water and the annual land cover load in the twin on request, each with its data date.

The discipline teaches those methods with their strengths and biases, the concept of polycrisis for crises whose interactions amplify harm, risk interconnection maps, horizon scanning, and the assessments that matter most for public policy, among them the UN Global Risk Report of 2024, the Global Assessment Report 2025 and the OECD's work on critical risks. It sits beside the nexus method of the faculty so that a global picture can be brought down to a basin. A graduate can compare two global risk assessments, explain why their rankings differ and design an indicator-based monitor.
This area covers the assessment of global risks that interact, from climate and biodiversity loss to pandemics, conflict, debt and technology, and the concept of polycrisis for crises whose combined effect exceeds their sum. It is taught in the department of Nexus-Based Risk Management, Faculty of Systems and Nexus Studies, through courses still to be authored.
