Systemic Risk and Complexity
Global catastrophic risks, taught twice over: as the working methods of the field and as its frontier since 2024, with labs on the Academy's tools, open data and the Nexus Standards.
This area covers low-probability, high-impact risks that could severely harm humanity at global scale: extreme pandemics, nuclear war, extreme space weather and near-Earth objects, very large volcanic eruptions, severe climate outcomes and risks from advanced technology.
Arsenal growth and weakening arms control raise the baseline probability of nuclear catastrophe in risk assessments. Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Increasing focus on nuclear weapons amid heightened escalation risks: new SIPRI Yearbook out now, 8 June 2026

Every course of the programme placed in this discipline.
The Academy proposes how each discipline teaches toward the Nexus Standards; the mapping is open for public review. Bodies and standards are named so learners can find and apply their published work; the Academy teaches their use and links to the publisher, and no affiliation is implied.

Reports is the Consortium's quarterly publication. What you know about this subject can become evidence, a case or a correction in the next edition, credited to you and published under CC BY 4.0 where it is your own work.
Every course is free and open. Institutions and experts can co-teach, host a cohort, contribute a lab or review a course before it opens.
Our articles, maps and twins are free to read and free to republish. Readers and partners keep it that way.
