The discipline in brief.

The discipline teaches the policy cycle, policy analysis and risk-informed design, regulatory impact assessment, policy coherence and cross-border policy, implementation gap analysis and policy evaluation and learning, with the precautionary principle as the rule for acting on incomplete evidence, under ISO 31000 and the OECD governance of critical risks recommendation. The faculty's policy timeline is its instrument: dated alert and event records per country, with the index and milestone columns empty until their sources have a row. A graduate can write a regulatory impact assessment, compare a policy across jurisdictions and evaluate an implementation against what it intended.

This area covers how public policy on shared risks is analysed, designed, compared across jurisdictions and evaluated, and the institutional capacity it depends on. It is taught in the department of Governance, Public Policy and Foresight, Faculty of Governance, Policy and International Affairs, through 3 courses with it as primary discipline.
