One Health, zoonoses, antimicrobial resistance, pollution and exposure

Department of Environmental and One Health

The department follows a hazard from its source to a dose in a person or an ecosystem: a pathogen crossing from wildlife or livestock, a resistant bacterium selected by antimicrobial use, a pollutant carried by air, water or soil.

Twin builder and simulator.

For Department of Environmental and One Health: the faculty's twin of Delhi on the planet map, the globe and in 3D. Pick a generator, switch layers, run the instruments; every layer prints its provider and date.

Delhi and its National Capital Territory core: a flat plan of the faculty twin. Terrain 191 to 315 m; 950 hospitals; 26,073,018 people in the box, 2020; Population density, GPW v4.11 (2020): live, loads in the twin; Air quality, Copernicus CAMS via Open-Meteo (hourly, 5 days): live, loads in the twin; Nitrogen dioxide column, TROPOMI (Sentinel-5P): live, loads in the twin; Surface air temperature, AIRS (daily, day): live, loads in the twin; Urban heat island, summer daytime 2013: live, loads in the twin; Built-up and settlement extent, HBASE 2010: live, loads in the twin. Contours every 50 metres from the elevation grid; people per cell, worldpop 2020 as four classes per cell (edges 4,474, 14,627, 25,652); hospitals as marks.

What the department studies.

Its methods are One Health integrated surveillance across people, animals and environment under the Quadripartite joint plan of action, source apportionment and exposure pathway analysis, dose-response reading, and the comparison of modelled and measured concentrations with the WHO 2021 air quality guideline values, which the faculty's air-exposure instrument does on the CAMS series at any point of the Delhi twin, with the TROPOMI nitrogen dioxide column and the AIRS surface air temperature draped on the terrain for their dates. A graduate can design an integrated surveillance scheme for a zoonosis or a resistance signal, trace an exposure pathway to a dose, and write an exposure note that names the model, its resolution and its date.

TermDefinition
One Health, zoonoses and antimicrobial resistanceOne Health links the health of people, animals, plants and the environment.
Pollution and environmental healthThis area covers air, water and soil pollution, chemicals and hazardous waste, and the pathways from a source to human and ecosystem exposure.
Climate and healthThis area brings together the health effects of climate change as one field: heat, extreme events, air quality and wildfire smoke, vector-borne and water-borne disease, food and nutrition, mental health and the resilience of health systems.
